Biafra Government in Exile, a FG sponsored distraction – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have denied any affiliation with the group known as the Biafra Government in Exile (BGE) and its so‑called Liberation Army, describing them as tools designed to “distract and deter” the IPOB movement. In a weekend statement, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful alleged that the BGE and its Liberation Army are double agents sponsored by the Federal Government to ridicule IPOB. She emphasized that IPOB has consistently dissociated itself from these “autopilot” groups.

Powerful warned that “agent provocateurs keep associating their criminal activities and actions with IPOB, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), and Nnamdi Kanu, because they were sent to distract and deter our movement. But we have defeated them and will always defeat them, as well as their sponsors.” She added that neither IPOB nor its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has ever declared an armed struggle or formed a Biafra army.

According to Powerful, IPOB’s armed component is the Eastern Security Network, a group of volunteers who protect forests and farmlands from Fulani herdsmen accused of killing, maiming, raping, and abducting people throughout the Southeast. She clarified, “IPOB is a peaceful and legally registered organization in many countries, seeking independence from the Nigerian state. The so‑called Biafra Government in Exile is a factional member of autopilot; none of its members are IPOB members.”
