The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of Commissioner of Police Mohammed Barde, who was on election duty in Adamawa State. He also directed the Commissioner of Police for Gombe State, Etim Equa, to proceed at once to Adamawa to oversee security for the highly contested supplementary governorship poll. The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced the orders while addressing the press in Abuja on Tuesday, emphasizing the IGP’s commitment to a free and fair electoral process.

Earlier, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission reconvened at the state collation centre in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, amid a heavy presence of security operatives. INEC Administrative Secretary for the state, Adamu Gujungu, who has been tasked with replacing the erring Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Yunusa Ari, was observed at the collation centre. INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, is also expected to appear at the centre.
