Why you’re not greatest of all time – Danny Murphy tells Gareth Bale

Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy has told Gareth Bale he is not the greatest British footballer of all time.

Bale, a former Real Madrid, Tottenham and Southampton star, retired from playing football on Monday

While at the Santiago Bernabeu, Bale won five Champions Leagues titles, three La Liga and one Copa del Rey.

And there has been a debate about whether he is the greatest British player of all time.

But Murphy has told the former forward that it would be wrong to call him the greatest player ever from the United Kingdom.

“The reason Gareth Bale isn’t the greatest is that his prime was about six years, five or six seasons. He had a couple at Spurs then he went to Madrid, where he was scoring 22, 17, 19 then he got 21.

“So, I would say in this six-year period – he was up there with the best. But the best players do it for 12 years. That’s the difference.”
