The federal government has suspended the executive secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission, NSSEC, Benjamin Abakpa, over alleged misappropriation of funds.
The suspension is contained in a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Andrew David Adejo.
The letter directed the suspended officer to hand over the affairs of the office to the most senior director in the commission.
Spokesperson of the commission, Fatima Bappare, while confirming the development, disclosed that Mr Abakpa was accused of administrative ineptitude, financial misappropriation, and lack of synergy, by the commission board members.
According to her, the suspension would allow for further investigations into the alleged offences.
Mrs Bappare added that the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC, had been invited to carry out a full investigation into the allegations levelled against Mr Abakpa.
Meanwhile, the most senior director in the commission, Abdulkareem Ibraheem, has taken over the day-to-day management of the commission pending the outcome of the investigation.
