Many raise eyebrows over alleged purchase of Cross River Transcorp Hotel by govt

An increasing number of Cross River residents and dignitaries are showing concerns over the alleged sale and purchase of Transcorps Hotel Calabar and other government property.

Last week, the state government put up a public notice and an intent to purchase the hotel once called Metropolitan Hotel and owned by the state government. It was reportedly sold for N250m by the government of Donald Duke to Tony Elumelu.

There are speculations in the state that powerful individuals in government may have used government funds to the tune of N2.8 billion to purchase the hotel and other government property advertised already.

Reacting, a senior citizen and good governance advocate Mr Peter Nandi Bette, said, “There is everything sinister about the alleged sale and purchase of Transcorp Hotel purportedly by the outgoing Governor.

“One’s guess is that the last may not have been heard yet on this matter.”

Speaking to Media Talk Africa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Mba Ukweni said the matter is now before the court.

“We are already in court over those sales..”, he said.
