Zamfara govt reinstates emir sacked for conferring chieftaincy title on bandit kingpin

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle has reinstated Alh. Aliyu Garba Marafa as Emir of Birnin Yandoto after he was sacked last year for conferring a chieftaincy title on a bandit kingpin.

Media Talk Africa recalls that Alh. Aliyu Garba Marafa, Emir of Birnin Yandoto was suspended in July last year for allegedly conferring a chieftaincy title on bandit kingpin, Ado Aleiru.
Although, the emir had explained that Aleiru was installed based on the role he played in the peace process in Tsafe LGA.

A statement on Sunday by Kabiru Balarabe Sardauna, Secretary to the State Government, announced the reinstatement of Marafa, which he said was based on the recommendation by the committee constituted to investigate the issue.

According to Sardauna, the committee found no evidence of any ill motive or collaboration between the Emir and the bandit.

“This is to inform the public that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, MON (Shatiman Sokoto), has approved the reinstatement of Alh. Aliyu Garba Marafa as the Emir of Birnin Yandoto,” the statement announced.

Sardauna explained that the findings of the committee showed that the traditional title was conferred on the repentant bandit as part of peace-building efforts between the repentant bandit and banditry-affected communities in Tsafe and Gusau local government areas, which include Yandoto town, adding that the reinstatement takes immediate effect.
