EPL: Two Chelsea players ruled out of season ahead of Brentford clash

Chelsea have suffered a double injury blow with Reece James and Mason Mount ruled out for the rest of the season.

This was confirmed by interim boss, Frank Lampard on Tuesday.

James has made only 14 Premier League starts due to a series of fitness problems.

His latest setback came during the second leg of the Blues’ Champions League quarter-final exit to Real Madrid.

Mount has been dealing with a pelvic problem in recent months and will now undergo an operation.

Lampard hinted there was a slim chance of Mount being available for Chelsea’s final game of the season at home to Newcastle on May 28.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League home game against Brentford, Lampard said: “Reece James is unavailable probably for the season, Mason Mount the same.

“[Mount has] potential [to be fit] for the last game of the season but probably not.”
