Akwa United targets third Federation Cup title in eight years

Akwa United are aiming to win their third Federation Cup title in eight years.

The Uyo outfit won Nigeria’s oldest club competition in 2015 and 2017.

The Promise Keepers will begin their campaign in this year’s competition with a Round of 64 fixture against Wikki Tourists at the INEC Stadium, Enugu.

Head coach, Ayodeji Ayeni is expected to select a strong side for the game.

The gaffer assessed his side’s chances in the competition this year.

“The FA Cup is a knockout competition and we are familiar with it. The competition is the easiest and simplest way to win a national trophy and qualify to play in the continent but it’s always full of upsets, “Ayeni told the club’s media.

“So we have to be on top of our game in every match and ensure we don’t give room for unnecessary distractions.”
