Court rules on Osun PDP congress May 2

Justice Ayo Oyebiyi of an Osun State High Court has adjourned till May 2, 2023 for ruling on an application seeking to nullify ward and local government congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.

The adjournment followed hearing of an application filed by a member of the party, Mr Segun Odekunmi, and seven others against the PDP and its caretaker Chairman in Osun State, Akindele Adekunle, for going ahead with the congress after the court had restrained them. The ward and local government congresses of the party were held between April, 18 and 19, 2023.

Earlier, while addressing the court, counsel for the plaintiffs, Mr Kehinde Adesiyan, said he filed an application seeking a reversal of all actions taken by the PDP on the congress, while the matter was pending before the court.

Adesiyan also said the plaintiffs attempted to participate in the congresses but were denied the opportunity, having been suspended from the party.

But counsel for the defendants, Mr Hashim Abioye, insisted that the matter bothered on the internal affairs of the PDP, contending that the court lacked jurisdiction to rule on such.

He urged the court to dismiss the application for lack of jurisdiction.

Justice Oyebiyi, however, adjourned the matter till May 2 for ruling on the plaintiffs’ application.
