U-17 AFCON: Golden Eaglets out to emulate Osimhen, Iheanacho, Chukwueze, others

Precious Williams says the current crop of Golden Eaglets are determined to emulate their predecessors by making a name for themselves at the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.

The competition will start on Saturday (today) in Algeria.

The likes of Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Iheanacho and Taiwo Awoniyi made their names in the competition before becoming global stars.

Iheanacho and Awoniyi were part of the Golden Eaglets squad that came second at the U-17 AFCON in Morocco in 2013.

Osimhen and Chukwueze were key members of the team that won the competition in 2015.

Williams, who is the skipper of the current side, hopes he can follow in their footsteps and also shine.
“It is a big encouragement just watching them at the highest level and knowing that they started here at the U17 Cup of Nations. It is a big encouragement for us players that we can make it too,” Williams told CAFonline.

“Personally it is a huge motivation for me and I hope that from here I will lift my name high too.”

The Golden Eaglets will take on Zambia in their first game on Sunday.
