Dr Muttaqha Rabe Darma Praises Late Yar’Adua and Criticizes Nigerian Leaders for Neglecting Islamic Teachings

Dr Muttaqha Rabe Darma, the President of the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Human Development Centre, has applauded the late Umaru Musa Yar’adua, former Nigerian leader, as an excellent transformational leader. During the 13th annual memorial lecture organised by the Fix Under Grassroots Aids Initiative, Darma eulogised Yar’adua, who passed away in office after ruling the country for only three years under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Dr Darma also recalled Yar’Adua’s tenure as Governor of Katsina State, praising his contributions to the development of the state and his plans to take Nigeria to greater heights.

He further commended the Islamic principle of governance as the best model for effective leadership, stating that it is a practical system that can effectively curb challenges. He affirmed that a leadership based on transparency, trust, and accountability is crucial, citing Islamic provisions on leadership that emphasise these qualities.

In his speech, Dr Darma expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of the country, blaming the societal decay on the failure of the government to take responsibility. He criticised Nigerian leaders for not embracing Islamic teachings on leadership and for their lack of trust and accountability to their followers.
