German Nurse Receives Life Sentence for Murdering Patients through Sedation

A Munich court has sentenced a nurse to life imprisonment for murdering two patients and attempting to kill six others by sedating them. The verdict was delivered on Monday after the nurse, whose identity cannot be disclosed, admitted to sedating patients in a recovery ward at a Munich hospital. The nurse said that he did so to prevent the patients from disturbing him while he slept off excessive alcohol consumption during work hours.

The court rejected the defence’s argument and found the nurse guilty of two counts of murder and six counts of attempted murder. Furthermore, the severity of the crimes has made it highly unlikely that he will be granted an early release from prison after serving 15 years, which is the minimum sentence for life imprisonment in Germany.

Apart from a life sentence, the court has also imposed a lifelong ban on the nurse ever working as a nurse again. This ruling prevents him from a repeat of his atrocious acts and ensures that he cannot claim the lives of innocent patients.
