IG of Police Vows to Defend Democracy on May 29

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, has affirmed that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) will not relent in safeguarding the country’s democracy, particularly during the upcoming May 29 inauguration.

The IGP made the assurance while addressing a press conference in Abuja yesterday. He emphasized that the May 29 ceremony at the federal and state levels is crucial and must be safeguarded from any form of disruption.

It was made abundantly clear that anyone found plotting against the inauguration ceremonies would be identified and promptly brought to justice.

The police chief stated that the Nigeria Police is legally empowered and duty-bound to protect the country’s constitutional processes and defend its heritage of democracy. He further assured the citizens that the police force places a high priority on preserving their democratic and political order.

“We shall undertake this task optimally and manifestly,” he added.

As Nigeria prepares to commemorate the 2021 Democracy Day, it is reassuring to see top security personnel come forward and give a stern warning. Democracy is integral to the nation’s future, and any potential threats must be firmly dealt with. By their actions, the IGP and his team have demonstrated a commitment to keeping Nigerian democracy strong and viable.
