Rivers United’s head coach, Stanley Eguma, has expressed his thoughts on his team’s recent victory over Sunshine Stars – a match that was hard-fought.
The winners, who are also the holders of the title, secured their spot in the Nigeria Premier Football League Super Six playoff with a slim 1-0 victory over the Owena Waves in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Morice Chukwu scored the only goal of the match for the hosts in the second half.
Eguma acknowledged the difficulties posed by their opponents and claimed that his team should have scored more goals, despite their impressive performance.
“It was a tough game, and we expected it because Sunshine Stars was also eyeing the Super Six play-off and they played hard, but the game was under our control,” Eguma stated after the match.
“The players did very well, but Sunshine Stars were just lucky, and it would have been dozens of goals. I commended the players,” he added.
Rivers United will host Doma United on Thursday in another rescheduled match, after which the Port Harcourt club will conclude their campaign against Rangers on Sunday.
