Nigeria Police: Committed to Defending Democracy on May 29

In preparation for the May 29, 2023 inauguration ceremony of Kano State’s governor-elect, the Nigeria Police have declared their resolute commitment to defending the country’s democracy. The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, reassured the public of the police’s preparedness and capability in a statement to newsmen.

Gumel also warned against any attempt to create tension and chaos during the ceremony and cautioned political actors with subversive agendas to desist from their plans. He stressed that anyone who engages in acts that are detrimental to the country’s democratic and security interests will be dealt with, irrespective of political affiliations.

The Command also cautioned touts, who may be exposed to political radicalization and extremism, to resist any plans for subversion. Any actions contrary to this will not be tolerated.

The Police and relevant security agencies are determined to defend democracy and maintain internal security for the successful inauguration ceremony. Gumel further urged the general public to cooperate with security agencies for a successful event.
