PDP in Zamfara to Revoke Allocations of Land and Housing Units over Alleged Illegality

The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to revoke land allocations and housing units allocated to civil servants and other parties by the current administration. The PDP claims that the allocations were not justified and were done close to the 2023 general election. The party alleges that the allocations were politically motivated and were meant to pacify civil servants, unions, associations, and organizations to vote for the ruling party in the upcoming election.

Hon. Mukhtar Lugga, the State chairman of the PDP, made this known in a chat with newsmen in Gusau, the State capital. He asked where the Governor had been for the past four years that he could not make such allocations until close to the election period. He added that the allocations would be revoked since they were illegally allocated.

It can be recalled that in January of 2023, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle allocated 450 housing units to civil servants in the State through the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC. The governor also announced the allocation of lands to unions and associations in early February of this year, constituting a land allocation committee comprising of union representatives.

The PDP believes that the allocations were not justified and will, therefore, revoke them should the party win the upcoming election in the State. This move by the PDP may cause controversy and uncertainty among the beneficiaries of the allocations, especially in the civil service and union sectors. It remains to be seen how this issue will be resolved and what impact it will have on the upcoming election in the State.
