The Federal Government has announced the renaming of the Ministry of Aviation to the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace. The announcement was made by the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika during a State House Briefing in Aso Villa after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.

According to the Minister, the alteration became expedient because aviation and aerospace are intertwined and Nigeria needs to proactively set its policies to align with future occurrences. He stated that the future of aviation has experienced advancements, and there is a need to adopt and adjust to every sector of the global system.

Sirika went on to link the development to the establishment of the African Aerospace and Aviation University in Abuja. He emphasized that the university is expected to provide the required manpower and experts who will develop Nigeria’s policies and finances in the aviation and aerospace sector.

The Minister assured Nigerians that the renaming of the Ministry will enhance the ease of doing business in the sector, as all policies and regulations concerning aviation and aerospace will be condensed in the same ministry.

The Nigerian aviation sector has been facing challenges, with airlines struggling due to declining revenues and limited government intervention. However, with the renaming and the Ministry’s mandate expanded to include the aerospace sector, there is optimism that the country’s aviation industry will experience significant improvement.

In conclusion, the renaming of the Ministry to include aerospace aligns with Nigeria’s agenda to diversify the economy and explore other sectors. This move also demonstrates the country’s readiness to embrace advancements in the aviation industry and incorporate them into government policies and programs.
