Ondo Lawmaker Commends FG’s Approval of Deep Seaport in the State

The recent approval by the Federal Executive Council for the establishment of a deep seaport in Ondo State has been praised by Nicholas Tofowomo, the Senator representing Ondo South in the Senate. Speaking through his media aide, Mr Olumide Akinrinlola, the Senator credited the approval of the seaport to the collective effort by all stakeholders.

According to Tofowomo, the process of establishing the seaport project began during the immediate past administration of Dr Olusegun Mimiko and was brought to fruition during the present administration in the state. As a senator, he made significant efforts in the Senate to ensure the bill on the seaport sailed through the upper chamber of the National Assembly. The bill passed the test of a public inquiry and ultimately passed its second reading on June 30, 2021.

In his statement, Tofowomo highlighted the potential impact the deep seaport would have on Lagos State’s congested seaports, noting that it would create employment opportunities while improving commerce and industry. He also expressed his gratitude towards the state government for its renewed efforts, as well as the federal government for heeding the cries of people in Ondo South.

The approval of the deep seaport project is expected to develop the coastal line, facilitate the clearing of goods, and boost trade commerce in the state. Overall, this development is seen as a significant economic win for Ondo State and Nigeria at large.
