NAWOJ Urges Women to Prioritize Their Health with Regular Check-Ups

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ondo State chapter, has urged women to prioritize their health by going for regular medical check-ups. As part of the advice, the group encouraged women to create time to relax after daily activities and avoid unnecessary physical, emotional and psychological stress, which can lead to high blood pressure.

The Acting Chairperson of the association, Comrade Tola Gbadamosi, emphasized the importance of women taking care of their health, especially as they age and face more challenges in sustaining their homes. This was disclosed during the association’s Women Health program held in Akure, Ondo State.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ondo State, Dr. Adebummi Osadahun, also spoke at the event. She emphasized the need for women to remember their roles in society, stating that ‘no woman, no generation’ has taken the place of the old slogan ‘no woman, no nation’. She reminded women that aging is a natural phenomenon and advised them to avoid overthinking and manage their stress levels to prevent an increase in their blood pressure.

The state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Prince Leke Adegbite, also encouraged women not to take their health for granted but rather prioritize it. He urged them to engage in regular medical check-ups.

NAWOJ was called upon to always include men in their health programs, sensitizing them on women’s health issues. This is so that men can understand why women should be given special consideration and allowed to have proper rest they deserve than adding more to their challenges in their marital rights.

This advice from NAWOJ and other speakers is vital, as many women tend to prioritize the welfare of their families over their personal needs. It is crucial for women to take care of their health, as it has a direct impact on their ability to take care of their families and contribute positively to society. Regular medical checkups can lead to early detection and prevention of illnesses and diseases, thereby increasing the chances of enjoying a healthy life.
