The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Dare Ogundare, addressed the press on Friday, parading 16 suspects that were apprehended for their alleged involvement in various criminal activities. Among these suspects are four men that were arrested for kidnapping in the Oke Ako area of Ekiti and Kwara states.
Ogundare promised that the Ekiti State police would continue to perform their duty to protect the lives and properties of the citizens effectively. He added that after thorough investigations, all the arrested suspects would be charged to court.
The Ekiti State police, working together with the Kogi State Police Command, arrested Abu Hassan, also known as Danger and Abubakar Sodiq, notorious for terrorizing residents around Iyemero/Oke-Ako/Irele/Ipao-Ekiti axis of the state and parts of Kwara State. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects. One locally made single barrel gun and two live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
Ogundare also revealed that Umar Hassan and Yusuf Lawal were arrested by the police for allegedly kidnapping Ajayi Mary Olajumoke in Ayenco area, Eda-Ile-Ekiti. The kidnappers released her after the ransom was paid. The police recovered two cutlasses and a cash sum of N82,200, which was part of the ransom collected from the suspects.
Moreover, during a stop and search operation along Aramoko-Efon highway, the police stopped a Toyota bus carrying Ismaila, Komolafe, and Aladegoke. The suspects were found in possession of different electric cables that they had vandalized from a transformer. They admitted to their involvement in the act.
Additionally, some suspects were arrested for alleged involvement in armed robbery and membership of a secret cult in parts of Ekiti State.
The CP concluded by saying that a manhunt has been initiated to apprehend the other suspects. The police would continue to discharge their duties and ensure the safety of Ekiti residents.
