EFCC Alerts Public to Corrupt Politicians Planning to Flee Nigeria Before May 29

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed that certain governors and politicians, accused of corruption, are strategizing to flee the country before the May 29, 2023 inauguration of President-elect, Bola Tinubu. This information was made known by Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesman for the EFCC, in a statement released on Friday night.

According to reports, the Governors-elect, Senators-elect, the House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly members-elect are expected to be inaugurated on the same day. Uwujaren revealed that the EFCC is collaborating with its foreign partners to thwart the escape plans of corrupt politicians and governors.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to bringing all politically exposed persons involved in corrupt practices while in public office to justice. The EFCC did not, however, disclose any names or the countries where the politicians were planning to flee.

This development comes on the heels of President Muhammadu Buhari’s vow to ensure that corrupt officials are brought to book. He maintained that the EFCC and other law enforcement agencies would continue to go after corrupt individuals who have held positions of power in Nigeria.

It is expected that the EFCC and its foreign partners will work tirelessly to track down and bring corrupt politicians to justice, assuring Nigerians that there will be no hiding place for corrupt public officials.
