The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Sunday in connection with the death of an 80-year-old woman. The identity of the deceased has yet to be released to the public, but her lifeless body was discovered on her farm in Costain area, Ore, in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Reports say that the octogenarian had been missing for a few days before being found dead on her farm in the community. Locals were reportedly suspicious of the circumstances of her death, believing that she must have been raped to death, as her corpse was found in a position that suggested assault.
Residents eventually caught Sunday, a palm wine tapper, and found the deceased’s phone in his pocket. Having been found with the device, he was immediately handed over to the police.
Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed that the suspect was already in custody and would be charged after investigations were completed.
The incident has prompted an outcry among locals, who have expressed their shock and sadness over the elderly woman’s death. The police have appealed for calm, promising to do everything in their power to bring the culprit to justice.
