John Ugbe, the Chairman of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria and CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria, has explained the significance of cultural diversity as the theme for the 9th edition of Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA). Ugbe made this disclosure at the black carpet ceremony of the show, which holds on 14th March 2020.
The CEO stated that it is crucial to present African stories to the world, and that the theme of cultural diversity was chosen to this effect. He emphasised the need for Africa to own and export her culture to the world.
“We always see how important it is that we tell our stories, though you may see us drift a bit. I mean, I’ve drifted off culturally before. It’s African stories, and we thought it was important to put the message out and actually showcase it. We had the cultural event two nights ago. I’m still trying to look through the pictures because they are all absolutely wonderful. It’s what we own, it’s what we have and it’s important that we export it to the world,” Ugbe said.
In retrospect, Ugbe expressed his excitement over the achievements of MultiChoice Nigeria and the incredible growth of AMVCA. He acknowledged the strenuous efforts put in by the producers, cast, and crew into the movies.
“You know the years have gone by, but I think if we look back to where we were, when we started 20 years ago, with Africa magic and where we are now, it’s now miles ahead, and I think it’s quite an exciting industry. We have put in a lot of work. The Producers, cast and the crew have put their hearts into these productions. So it’s really great for us to be able to recognize and reward them as well,” he said.
Ugbe also spoke about his optimistic expectations for the show. He is hopeful to witness the winners in the multiple 34 categories and enjoy fantastic musical performances from top Nigerian music stars like Tiwa Savage and Iyanya.
Furthermore, Ugbe revealed that MultiChoice Nigeria has renewed its focus on indigenous productions while production slots have been refreshed. He reassured viewers of their commitment to better the language options and get closer to their communities.
In conclusion, AMVCA 2020 serves as a testament to the beauty of African cultural diversity. MultiChoice Nigeria has done an outstanding job by sticking to their vision of promoting African stories and exporting African culture to the world.
