A gas cylinder explosion rocked the Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Sunday, leading to the loss of several lives. Reports state that no fewer than five people died in the explosion, which occurred in a welder’s shop. An eyewitness, Usman Muhammad, disclosed that the explosion killed two artisans and mutilated their bodies. Unfortunately, the incident is said to have taken place in an area under the siege of bandits. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Sanusi Abubakar, confirmed that four people died in the explosion and stated that three others were injured. Abubakar revealed that the explosion occurred on Sunday afternoon and was not connected to the ongoing security challenge faced by the area. Instead, it was the result of an explosion originating from a cylinder present in the welder’s shop. Presently, the injured victims are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the state. The chairman of the local government, Abubakar Danali, confirmed the explosion’s occurrence, but he was not present in town at the time and could not ascertain the casualty figures. Such occurrences have raised concerns about the safety of gas cylinders, and it is hoped that relevant agencies will take proactive steps towards preventing unfortunate incidents like this from reoccurring in the future.
