The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed its delight with the Flying Eagles’ performance against the debutants, Dominican Republic, in their first game of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup on Sunday. The Nigerian team won the game 2-1 at the Estadio Malvinas Mendoza.
Despite conceding a penalty in the 23rd minute, the Flying Eagles rallied to win, thanks to an own goal by Guillermo de Pena and a subsequent goal by Samson Lawal. The NFF, through its General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, congratulated the team and praised their show of resilience during the match.
However, Sanusi stated that the team could have won by a more significant margin, noting that goal advantage could be crucial during the competition.
The Flying Eagles are now second in Group B after Italy, who defeated Brazil 3-2 in their opening game. The Nigerian team will take on Italy in their next match on Wednesday.
The team’s victory has given them a confident start, and Ladan Bosso’s side will hope to continue this impressive run to win the trophy. The NFF has urged the team to remain focused ahead of their upcoming games, noting that the next two fixtures could be more challenging.
