Anambra Communities Seek Governor Soludo’s Intervention to Resolve Land Disputes

Indigenes of Achalla, a community in Awka North Local Government Area, and leaders of Nimo community in Njikoka Local Government Area have called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to intervene in resolving land disputes.

The Achalla community members recently protested against the award of a contentious land to their neighbours in Urum community. According to Mr Calistus Nnakwue, the Secretary-General of Achalla Improvement Union, a peace committee set up did not invite their representatives before giving the disputed land to Urum community. They are, therefore, calling on Governor Soludo to set up a new committee to preside over the matter and give an unbiased verdict.

Similarly, leaders of Nimo community are holding a town hall meeting to end a controversy surrounding a piece of land converted into an estate by the community’s leaders. A press statement signed by the President-General and Secretary-General of Nimo Town Development Union, Chief Ekenenna Okafor-Omabu and Ogbuefi Patrick Egbakpalu, respectively, stated that the meeting scheduled for Saturday, May 27, would set the records straight and enlighten Nimo citizens on the developments in the Owa land, now called Obodo Oma Estate. The outcome of the meeting would be presented at the General Assembly Meeting later in the year.

It is hoped that Governor Soludo’s intervention and community leaders’ efforts would lead to amicable solutions to these land disputes. The governor’s prompt response would also boost the people’s confidence in the state government’s commitment to fairness and equity, which are vital for peaceful coexistence and social cohesion.
