The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has disciplined three corps members who absconded from their service duties and mandated them to repeat their service year in Gombe State. In contrast, two other corps members received an extension of their service year.
Mr. Dawut Jidda, the Coordinator of NYSC in Gombe state, disclosed this at a Passing-Out Parade ceremony for 2022 Batch “B” Stream I corps members, where 526 corps members officially rounded-off their service year.
Jidda further stated that the disciplinary actions meted out to the affected corps members were in line with the NYSC bye-law. After facing the Corps Disciplinary Committee, the decision was taken to penalize them.
In his congratulatory message to the outgoing corps members, Jidda encouraged them to focus on starting small, as extraordinary things often start from humble beginnings. He urged them to make use of their talents and creativity to add value to themselves, their communities, and the nation at large.
According to Jidda, Gombe State NYSC was one of the top-ranked at the Presidential Honours award ceremony for its commendable contributions towards community development. Outstanding corps members in community development are eligible for Local Government award, State Honours award, and Presidential Honours award.
Jidda commended the corps members that contributed to developing their communities during their service year. He expressed his optimism that many of them would receive commendations when the need arises.
In conclusion, it is vital for corps members to prioritize their duties and deliver their services to the communities they are posted to in the course of their service year. This will enable them to reap the full benefits that come with the national service exercise.
