Biafra Agitator Ekpa Urges Buhari and DSS to Free Nnamdi Kanu Over Deteriorating Health

Biafra separatist and agitator, Simon Ekpa, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and the Department of State Security (DSS) that the Indigenous People of Biafra’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu, must not die in detention. Ekpa, who is a Finland-based lawyer and Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), called on the Nigerian Government to release Kanu due to his deteriorating health in a statement published by Media Talk Africa.

According to Ekpa, the DSS-medical team has verified that Kanu requires immediate medical attention. He has been suffering from ear pain for over two years and has not received proper medical attention from the authorities, which is a cause for concern. The statement urges the Nigerian Government to release Kanu immediately or allow his medical team to attend to him while he is in detention.

Ekpa also rejected the idea of the DSS medical team performing surgery on Kanu, emphasising that his well-being must be prioritised while in detention. He cited the case of DIG Joseph Egbunike, who died after medical surgery to remove a fishbone that was stuck in his throat in March 2022, as evidence of the risk the DSS could pose to Kanu’s health. He claimed that the medical surgery recommendation is a “Trojan Horse” that the DSS is using as an excuse to poison and kill him.

EKpa urged all Biafrans to resist any DSS attempts to perform any surgery on Kanu, stating that the consequences would be dire if anything happened to him. Ekpa’s statement concluded by stating that many people suspected of being involved in the kidnapping would face repercussions.

Kanu was re-arrested in 2019 by the Nigerian Government, and despite various court orders, Buhari’s Government has refused to allow him bail.

In a different context, Ekpa recently received the Ambassador of Peace award at the African Day celebrations in Helsinki, Finland, from the Universal Peace Federation (UPF).
