Everton midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has pledged to the club’s fans that they will not face relegation at the end of the current Premier League season. As Everton heads into the crucial final day of the season, they must beat Bournemouth to prevent being relegated to the English Football League. Currently ranked 17th in the Premier League table, the Toffees face a daunting task as they will need to win the game regardless of Leeds United and Leicester City’s respective games against Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.
The Nigeria international who has played in every match so far this season for Everton, assures fans that the team is focused on beating Bournemouth and not how the other games will pan out.
Iwobi said, “I don’t think we’ll be distracted by focusing on any other game. Because on the day as long as we get the result and get the win, it doesn’t really matter about any of the other results. So that will be our focus.”
Furthermore, the 24-year-old sees it as a privilege and an honour to play for such a big club and remains conscious of the impact relegation would have on the fans.
“It just makes me feel like it is a privilege and an honour to represent such a big club. It shows me who I am doing this for. I am not just doing it for people here, I am actually talking to people and it affects them and if Everton go down they will be devastated.”
Amidst the mounting pressure and high stakes for Everton, Iwobi and his teammates will be aiming to deliver a memorable performance that secures their Premier League status and ensures that they do not join the ranks of the relegated.
