President Buhari Apologizes for Negative Impact of Economic Policies

In his farewell address to the nation on Sunday, outgoing President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, (retd.), rendered an apology to Nigerians for the adverse effects of some of his economic policies on them.

Buhari acknowledged that certain decisions he made caused temporary hardship for Nigerians. However, he emphasized that these measures were implemented for the overall benefit of the country, and many yielded favourable results.

“In the course of revamping the economy, we made some difficult choices, most of which yielded the desired results. Some of the measures led to temporary pain and suffering for which I sincerely apologise to my fellow countrymen, but the measures were taken for the overall good of the country,” he explained.

The President-elect, Bola Tinubu, will take over the reins of government on May 29 when Buhari’s tenure officially ends.

It remains to be seen how the incoming administration will deal with the nation’s economic challenges, but many hope Tinubu will take a different approach.
