Death Penalty for Phone Snatchers as Kano State Takes Strict Measures

In a bid to tackle the increasing rate of phone snatching in Kano state, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has declared the act as armed robbery. Offenders will now face the death penalty for their crime. The Kano State Security Council made this announcement during its valedictory session.

Malam Muhammad Garba, outgoing Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, disclosed in a statement that the council agreed to the implementation of a special squad within the security system to combat the menace of phone snatching. The council expressed concerns over the recent upsurge in the number of cases in the state, calling for drastic measures.

During the meeting, the council also discussed the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Governor. Appropriate measures have been put in place to ensure a peaceful ceremony. Miscreants who may cause violence during the celebration have been warned to desist from such acts. The statement added that destruction of public or individual properties, as well as those belonging to the opposition, would not be tolerated.

In his address at the council meeting, Governor Ganduje emphasized the importance of a smooth transition of power in the state and urged for a peaceful ceremony. He expressed gratitude to the state’s security agencies for their cooperation during his tenure and urged them to sustain the tempo.

The heads of the various security agencies in the state and other council members attended the meeting.
