President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the conferment of national honours on prominent Nigerians, including hip-hop sensation Davido, Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, and footballer Victor Osimhen. The announcement was released by the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs.

Kunle Afolayan, a renowned filmmaker whose works have showcased new talent in Nollywood, was also awarded the OON. His recent three-film deal with the US streamer, Netflix, is viewed as a boost for Nigeria’s burgeoning film industry.

Charles Okpaleke, an entertainment industry heavyweight, was another recipient of the OON.

Recipients of the national awards have been requested to submit a soft copy of their citation or resume to the ministry before May 31. They are also expected to receive their medals and certificates at a formal ceremony on June 1, 2023.
