Buhari Honours Davido, Kunle Afolayan, and Osimhen with National Awards

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the conferment of national honours on prominent Nigerians, including hip-hop sensation Davido, Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, and footballer Victor Osimhen. The announcement was released by the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs.

Davido, who has achieved global renown for his contributions to the music industry, was awarded the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). The artist has also been vocal in offering support for his uncle, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, a politician and the Governor of Osun State.

Kunle Afolayan, a renowned filmmaker whose works have showcased new talent in Nollywood, was also awarded the OON. His recent three-film deal with the US streamer, Netflix, is viewed as a boost for Nigeria’s burgeoning film industry.

Charles Okpaleke, an entertainment industry heavyweight, was another recipient of the OON.

Victor Osimhen, a football player who helped Napoli clinch their first Serie A title in 33 years with his impressive goalscoring record, was conferred with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) award.

Businessman Terry Waya, who is renowned as the father of reality TV star Kiddwaya, was also honoured with the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) award.

Recipients of the national awards have been requested to submit a soft copy of their citation or resume to the ministry before May 31. They are also expected to receive their medals and certificates at a formal ceremony on June 1, 2023.

In summary, the national honours recipients have been acknowledged for their significant contributions to their respective industries, bringing positive recognition and putting Nigeria on the global map.
