Seychelles’ Government Assesses Buildings for Solar Panel Installation

The Seychelles’ government is evaluating its public buildings to assess their suitability for the installation of photovoltaic panels in pursuit of the goal of a 15% renewable penetration by 2030 and ambitions of net-zero emissions by 2050. Buildings being considered include police stations, health centres and government offices. “We are assessing whether the earmarked institutions’ roofs can sustain having the panels. It will not make sense to install the panel on a building such as a police station that will be undergoing renovations soon,” said Tony Imaduwa, Seychelles’ Principal Secretary for Energy and Climate Change. The Department of Energy already undertook phase one of its public building installation programme and has begun work on phase two.
