The long-awaited presidential election result is finally out, and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President-elect, has been administered with the oath of office by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola.
The highly-anticipated event took place a few minutes after the Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima, also took his oath of office. The ceremony was held at the Eagle Square, Abuja, amidst tight security.
It was a historic moment as Tinubu became the fifth democratically elected president of Nigeria since its return to democratic rule in 1999. He takes over from President Muhammadu Buhari, who served two terms in office.
Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election was a significant one, as he defeated strong contenders like Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). His victory was a clear indication of his popularity and widespread acceptance among Nigerians.
Prior to his election, Tinubu served as the Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, where he was praised for his outstanding performance in infrastructure development, education, and healthcare. He was also instrumental in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which paved the way for his presidential bid.
As Nigeria’s new President, Tinubu faces enormous challenges, particularly in the areas of security, the economy, and infrastructure development. However, many Nigerians are optimistic that he has the experience, vision, and political will to steer the country towards a brighter future.
All in all, Tinubu’s swearing-in as Nigeria’s President marks the beginning of a new era in the country’s history, and Nigerians are hopeful that his presidency would be a successful one.
