The outgoing Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has handed over the state administration to his successor, Abba Yusuf, along with N241 billion in debts. Speaking at the Government House, Kano, Ganduje’s representative, Usman Alhaji, stated that his principal left for Abuja to attend the inauguration of President-elect, Bola Tinubu.
Governor Ganduje revealed that his administration had collected N1.2 trillion in the last eight years and had spent the amount, leaving behind about N241 billion in debts. He explained that the debts included loans, contractual obligations, and other liabilities.
Receiving the handover notes, the governor-elect expressed dissatisfaction with the debt profile left for the incoming administration. However, he promised to carefully study the reports and come out with their position on the issue and other matters. Mr Yusuf further called on the people of the state to pray for the success of his administration and to ensure they met the expectation of the governed through good democratic governance.
In attendance at the event were Senator representing Kano South, Kawu Sumaila; a former deputy governor Hafiz Abubakar, the state Head of Service, Usman Bala, and the state chairman of NNPP, Umar Doguwa, among other dignitaries.
In conclusion, the new administration must work hard to offset the debts left by the former regime while putting in place strategies to manage the state’s resources efficiently. It is only through good governance that they can meet the people’s expectations and better the lives of the citizens.
