The newly elected Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has declared a state of emergency on sanitation in Jos, the state capital. The declaration was made in his inaugural speech moments after being sworn in as the new governor at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium in Jos.
During his speech, Governor Mutfwang expressed his disappointment at the state of affairs under the out-gone administration and outlined his administration’s bold and ambitious plans to transform the state. He stressed that the successful execution of the programmes and initiatives would largely depend on peace, which is critical for progress and development.
Governor Mutfwang also issued a stern warning to groups or individuals behind the recurrent attacks and killings in the state to desist from such heinous acts. He noted that his new administration would not tolerate such wickedness and promised to take decisive actions to ensure peace and security in the state.
While acknowledging the enormity of the task before him and his team, Governor Mutfwang is eager and determined to prioritize the pressing needs of the state, which include healthcare, education, infrastructure, and so on. He noted that there are no quick-fix solutions to these challenges, but he and his team are ready to confront them head-on and hit the ground running immediately.
The governor expressed concern over the genocidal attacks suffered by many communities in the state, which have left deep wounds and trauma on several widows, orphans, relations, and friends. He called for an end to hate, mutual suspicion, misplaced anger, and reprisal attacks in the state and urged everyone to work towards unity and prosperity.
Governor Mutfwang concluded his address by warning those who may want to convert the present state of insecurity in the state into an opportunity to commit crimes or engage in revenge attacks to desist from such acts. He emphasized that Plateau State must be united, secure, and prosperous, and his administration is committed to achieving this vision.
The swearing-in ceremony witnessed a large crowd from different parts of the state, and the governor was sworn in alongside his deputy, Josephine Piyo, by the state Chief Judge, Justice David Mann, at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium in Jos.
