NAPTIP sacks director, four officers for misconduct

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has taken a disciplinary action against five of its officers, including a director, for their involvement in misconduct.

According to the agency, the sacked officials had breached the agency’s regulations and were found guilty of various offenses ranging from extortion to sexual harassment.

In a statement by NAPTIP’s Head of Press and Public Relations Unit, Stella Nezan, the action against the officers was taken to uphold the agency’s mandate and commitment to protecting victims of trafficking.

Ms. Julie Okah-Donli, Director-General of NAPTIP, said the agency has a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and will continue to take necessary actions against any officer who violates its regulations.

She urged NAPTIP staff to maintain professionalism and integrity while carrying out the agency’s mission to combat human trafficking and provide assistance to its victims.

The disciplinary action against the officers reflects the agency’s determination to ensure accountability and transparency in its operations. NAPTIP remains committed to working with other stakeholders to eradicate human trafficking and related offenses in Nigeria.

It is noteworthy that this move comes at a time when the issue of sexual harassment and misconduct in government agencies is being given significant attention in Nigeria. The decision to sack these officers is a clear message that there is zero-tolerance for misconduct and NAPTIP will not hesitate to take appropriate steps to address any violations. This bold action sends a strong message that NAPTIP remains committed to achieving its mandate.
