Tinubu, APC, INEC object to Atiku’s submitted documents in court

Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday opposed the admission of some documents into evidence tendered by Abubakar Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the outcome of the Nigerian presidential election.

The hearing, which took place at the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja, involved Chris Uche, SAN, counsel to the petitioners, submitting a second schedule of documents to be tendered before the court.

Some of the documents submitted by the PDP include certified true copies of Form EC8A, the sheet used for the collection of electoral results at the polling unit level across eight local government areas in Bayelsa, 23 local government areas of Kaduna state, 20 local government areas of Ogun state and 23 local government areas in Kogi state all sourced from INEC’s Result Viewing Portal (IREV).

Additionally, the petitioners submitted Form EC40G and true certified copies of Forms EC8E for Kaduna State, as well as for eight local government areas of Kaduna State and some local government areas in Kogi.

INEC counsel, Mr Kemi Pinhero, SAN, opposed the admissibility of all documents relating to Kogi except for those of five Local Government Areas, namely, Olamaboro, Ofu, Omala, Okehi and Ajaokuta which were pleaded in the petitioners’ pleadings.

Also, there was an objection to the admissibility of the BVAS documents except for Kogi, Rivers and Sokoto states. Tinubu’s Counsel, Mr R. Okala, SAN and that of the APC, Mr Adeniyi Akintola, SAN objected to the admissibility of the documents submitted by the PDP and Atiku but reserved their reasons for objecting the admission of the documents to be given in their final addresses.

Despite the attempts at objection to the documents already submitted, the Chairman of the Court, Justice Haruna Tsammani allowed the documents in evidence and labelled them appropriately. The continuation of the hearing was adjourned until Thursday.
