Why Mourinho Threw Away his Runners-up Medal During the Europa League Final

Jose Mourinho, the manager of Roma, has recently divulged the reason for throwing away his runners-up medal after the Europa League final where his team lost to Sevilla 4-1 on penalties.

Speaking to Movistar, Mourinho revealed that he does not keep silver medals, and usually gives them away.

Despite being the first to collect his medal during the presentation, Mourinho opted to hand it over to a fan instead of holding on to it.

He said, “That’s what I did, I don’t want silver medals. I don’t keep silver medals, so I gave it away.”

Having won five European finals with FC Porto, Inter Milan, Manchester United, and Roma, the Europa League final was the first one he has lost.
