In a bid to improve service delivery, the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has promoted 17,636 officers and men across all ranks in 2022. This news was announced on Thursday by Abubakar Umar, the spokesman of the service, in a statement released in Abuja.
The promotion exercise was aimed at motivating officers and men of the NCoS to work more efficiently. It covered officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Corrections to Assistant Controller of Corrections, with 7,505 junior officers benefitting from the exercise.
Haliru Nababa, the Controller General of Corrections, approved the promotion and urged the beneficiaries to consider their promotion as an opportunity to exhibit their best qualities in the discharge of their duties. In addition, he advised them to note that promotion comes with added responsibilities, and consequently, they should prepare themselves to face the tasks ahead.
While acknowledging the non-promotees, Mr Nababa reminded them that more opportunities abound in the future. He also reiterated the Service’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of staff and promoting the reformation and rehabilitation of inmates in custodial centres.
The promotion exercise, which is expected to boost the motivation of officers and men of NCoS, will impact positively on the Service’s efforts towards achieving its mandate of providing security, rehabilitation and reformation for inmates under its jurisdiction.
This news is a welcome development that would not only improve the overall performance of the Nigeria Correctional Service but would also have a positive impact on the Nigerian society as a whole.
