Ebonyi tribunal: PDP, Odii to call 60 witnesses against Gov Nwifuru’s victory

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Barrister Ajah Agha, have revealed that they will be presenting up to 60 witnesses to testify against the victory of Governor Dave Umahi’s preferred candidate, Mr. Onyekachi Nwifuru, in the Ebonyi South Senatorial election.

The party’s legal counsel Barrister Mudi Erhenede, made the disclosure at the ongoing National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abakaliki.

Erhenede affirmed that the witnesses will testify before the tribunal, stressing that they have “credible and relevant information” that would assist the tribunal in arriving at a just conclusion.

He further noted that the PDP legal team is also in possession of several documents and evidence, including voter registers, electoral materials and videos of infractions committed during the election.

Similarly, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Sonni Ogbuoji, stated that he would call 185 witnesses to testify in support of his petition against the victory of a former Governor, Senator Sam Egwu.

The tribunal had on Friday, July 5, 2019, dismissed Senator Egwu’s petition challenging the outcome of the election in Ebonyi North.

Meanwhile, the tribunal has adjourned the case to Wednesday, July 24, 2019, for commencement of hearing.

It will be recalled that Governor Umahi and Nwifuru had been at loggerheads, culminating in Nwifuru’s defection to the APC. However, the defection did not stop him from contesting and winning the Ebonyi South senatorial ticket under the platform of the PDP.
