Kano sets up mobile courts to tackle phone snatching

Kano State, the heart of Northern Nigeria, has proven to be a hub for phone-snatching in recent years. In response, the state government has set up mobile courts to combat the menace and improve the safety of its citizens.

The mobile courts, which began operation on Monday, are stationed at various locations across the state. The judges in charge of the courts have been given the power to summarily try the culprits and sentence them to jail time or fines, depending on the severity of the crime.

According to the spokesperson for the Kano State Judiciary, Baba Jibo Ibrahim, there has been a significant increase in the number of phone-snatching incidents in the state. These incidents often result in injuries, and in extreme cases, death.

The spokesperson also revealed that the mobile courts will operate in the evenings, when phone-snatching incidents are most prevalent. The goal is to create a more significant deterrent effect for potential offenders and improve the safety of the public.

The new initiative has generally been well-received by the public, who feel that it will go a long way in addressing the issue of phone-snatching. Many believe that the swift administration of justice will serve as a deterrent for other criminals and inspire confidence in the justice system.

In conclusion, the establishment of mobile courts in Kano state is a move in the right direction. It is a welcome development and a clear indication of the government’s commitment to the safety of its citizens. It is hoped that this initiative will help to significantly reduce incidents of phone-snatching in the state and restore a sense of security to the public.
