Kenya’s Governor Guyo Defects from Jubilee Party to UDA

Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has defected from Jubilee Party and joined President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). The announcement was made on Friday during a UDA meeting in Isiolo attended by UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malalah. This switch comes as a significant blow to the former ruling party, which has been facing a series of setbacks, the most notable being the addition of nearly 30 Members of Parliament aligning themselves with President Ruto in February 2023.

Governor Guyo expressed his excitement to serve the people of Isiolo and champion their aspirations under the exemplary leadership of President Ruto. He also admitted that he was ready to face a by-election and looked forward to continuing his leadership under the UDA Party.

Governor Guyo’s deputy James Lowasa and Speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly Mohamed Roba Koto also defected from the party led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta to join the UDA Party.

President Ruto’s party has been actively recruiting members to join their ranks in recent months, aiming to solidify a national presence following the 2022 elections. It remains to be seen what this political switch means for Kenya’s political landscape and if other officials will follow suit in the future.

It is important to note that we do not encourage or condone any form of violence or harm towards oneself or others. Political differences should be addressed peacefully through proper channels and dialogue.
