Abia State First Lady Visits Girls Rescued from Baby Factory

Following the rescue of 22 girls from a baby factory in Umunkpeyi Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Abia State, the state’s First Lady, Mrs Pricilla Otti, paid a visit to the Madonna College of Health Technology in Olokoro, Umuahia South LGA. The girls, who were discovered during a special operation by men of the Nigerian Army from the 14 Brigade Ohafia, are being given temporary medical attention at the facility.

Mrs Otti expressed her sadness at the condition in which the girls were found. She also expressed surprise that such a heinous crime was being perpetuated in Abia State. The Governor’s wife, however, vowed to protect the lives and rights of girls and children in the state, and promised that the rescued girls would be rehabilitated.

The girls are being kept in the maternity section of the College of Health and one of them has already delivered a baby. The owner of the baby factory, unfortunately, escaped before the arrival of the Army, leaving 21 girls at various stages of pregnancy. Rev Fr Christian Anokwuru, the Provost of the College, praised the Abia First Lady for her interest in the girls’ welfare.
