The State Security Service, SSS, on Saturday confirmed the arrest of the suspended governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, after initial denial.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that hours after the suspension of Mr Emeifele was announced, reports of his arrest were widely shared online.
But SSS spokesman Peter Afunanya denied the reports.
However, in another statement on Saturday, Mr Afunanya confirmed the arrest of the embattled CBN governor.
“The Department of State Security Services hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons”, the statement.
“The public, particularly the Media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this”, Mr Afunanya wrote.
