After securing his third UEFA Champions League (UCL) title, Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola has credited Real Madrid as the only team capable of winning the UCL every season.
Manchester City’s long wait for the championship came to an end after defeating Chelsea 1-0 in the final of the UCL which took place in Portugal. Guardiola, who had previously won the competition while at Barcelona twice, stated that Madrid could win the league year in and year out.
Real Madrid is the team to have won the UCL most times – 14. Meanwhile, City’s win is also the club’s first-ever Champion League title win, and according to Guardiola, a deserving victory that Manchester City was finally able to achieve.
Guardiola stated that winning five Premier League trophies is incredible, but winning a treble every season to be complete is nearly impossible. He further adds that people tend to undermine the excellence of the Premier League and the team’s achievement by merely winning this league. However, City can now get credit for their past seasons’ success.
The team’s title victory is one of many titles they have won in the last six seasons. According to Guardiola, the team’s ability to win multiple titles, including the Premier League and the UCL, over the past seasons is remarkable and hard to match.
