The Super Eagles of Nigeria have resumed camping for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sierra Leone, with nineteen (19) players already in camp and four more expected on Monday. The team camp opened on Sunday at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, under the guidance of coach Jose Peseiro.

The team is set to begin its preparation for the game at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, on Monday night ahead of Friday’s game against the Leone Stars. The match is scheduled for the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State, with the return leg taking place in Freetown four days later.

Some of the players who are already in camp include Ekong, Lookman, Aribo, Iwobi, Bassey, Ajayi, Akpoguma, Omeruo, Ndidi, Iheanacho, Awoniyi, Simon, Adeleye, Sochima, Ojo, Duru, Samuel, Divine, and Onyeka.

The fixture comes after Sierra Leone managed to hold Nigeria to a 4-4 draw in the reverse fixture in Freetown, which was part of the doubleheader played in November last year.

The Super Eagles’ manager, Peseiro, has hinted that his team has learned vital lessons from their last encounter against Sierra Leone, reassuring fans that his team is well-prepared for the fixture.

Nigeria currently leads Group L after two rounds of matches played with four points, with Lesotho and Sierra Leone following in the second and third positions, respectively, with three points each. The Super Eagles would be hoping for a victory in Friday’s game to remain atop of the group and on track to qualify for the 2023 AFCON finals in Ivory Coast.
