The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, has congratulated the new leadership of the National Assembly. He specifically congratulated Senator Godswill Akpabio and Rep. Tajudeen Abbas on their victories as the new President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively. He also congratulated Sen. Jibrin Barau and Rep. Ben Kalu on their appointments as deputies to the presiding officers.
Gbajabiamila, who is set to resume as the Chief of Staff (CoS) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, further advised the newly inaugurated National Assembly not to abandon some crucial legislations that were left unfinished by the previous assembly.
In a statement issued by Lanre Lasisi, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Gbajabiamila, he explained that the emergence of the presiding officers was an affirmation of the cohesive nature of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the triumph of party supremacy. He noted that the outcome of the election of the presiding officers demonstrated that the party and the lawmakers have shown that unity of purpose and focus on the needs of the country are greater than personal interests.
Gbajabiamila also extended his congratulations to all members of the 10th National Assembly, including members of the opposition parties that aligned themselves with the APC candidates, urging them to remain focused on the work ahead. While advising that they should keep supporting the presiding officers in their bid to succeed in their constitutional duties for the benefit of Nigerians, he also reminded the members not to lose sight of the unfinished crucial legislations.
The statement further emphasized that the victory of the APC at the poll encourages cohesion and unity of purpose, and the party must use it to press forward in seeing the implementation of the crucial legislations that will positively impact the country.
In conclusion, Gbajabiamila’s statement posits that the National Assembly must work together to deliver good governance and national development in the next four years. The new leadership must prioritize key legislations that will bring about significant progress and development in the country, while keeping to the tenets of party discipline and unity of purpose.
