SDP faults Akeredolu’s Democracy Day message

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, Ondo State chapter, has expressed dismay over what it described as a watery statement from Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in commemoration of Democracy Day.

According to the SDP, the statement fell short of expectations in every way that could be evaluated.

Akeredolu, in his Democracy Day message, highlighted the necessity of a thorough review of the current socio-political arrangement in Nigeria to facilitate progress and development.

The party in a press statement issued and signed by its Chairman, Stephen Adewale, noted that the governor’s statement was the “worst” since he assumed office.

While emphasising that Akeredolu’s statement was embellished with “extraneous issues and executive regurgitations”, the party further claimed that the statement was purposefully designed by the governor’s handlers to sway the good people of Ondo State and divert attention from issues begging for answers in his administration.

The SDP also expressed concern that the governor failed to show even empathy to millions of citizens groaning under the worst form of death, starvation, and economic hardship occasioned by the removal of subsidy by the APC-led federal government.

According to the party, the issue of subsidy was a serious omission on his part.

“It is distressing and alarming that Governor Akeredolu’s Press Statement on Democracy Day fell short of expectations. The people of Ondo State deserve better. We call on the governor to take urgent steps to address the many challenges facing our state,” it said.

The SDP also called on the governor to prioritize the welfare of the people of Ondo State and take concrete steps to address the many challenges facing the state.

The party further urged the governor to be more empathetic in his dealings with the citizens.
