In an effort to address the lingering issue of the newly established emirates in Kano State, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the House of Assembly have commenced talks. The emirates – Gaya, Bichi, Karaye, and Rano – were established by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje following his face-off with the deposed Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido.

A statement released by Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, on Wednesday night confirmed the ongoing discussions between the executive and legislative arms of the government. However, Bature emphasized that no decision had been made yet regarding the emirates.

“The engagements between the executive and the legislative arms of government in Kano will be open and transparent,” assured Bature. He also added that the people of Kano would have access to information on the major policies and decisions of the NNPP-led administration.

Lawal Hussaini, the Majority Leader of the Assembly, had previously urged the public to disregard any information suggesting immediate action on the emirates. It is important to note that the law which established the new emirates resulted in the removal of 36 out of Kano’s 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) from the Kano emirate.

Detailed information about the LGAs under each of the new emirates is as follows:
– Rano: Rano, Bunkure, Kibiya, Takai, Sumaila, Kura, Doguwa, Tudunwada, Kiru, and Bebeji
– Gaya: Gaya, Ajingi, Albasu, Wudil, Garko, Warawa, Dawakinkudu, Gabasawa, and Gezawa
– Karaye: Karaye, Rogo, Gwarzo, Kabo, Rimingado, Shanono, Madobi, and Garunmalam
– Bichi: Bichi, Bagwai, Tsanyawa, Shanono, Kunchi, Dambatta, Makoda, Dawakintofa, and Tofa

Meanwhile, during its first sitting on Wednesday, the legislature approved the appointment of 20 Special Advisers forwarded by the governor. The list of nominees for commissioners, who will serve in the new administration, is expected to be sent to the Assembly next week.
